Governor Brewer Issues Statement in Support of New Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base

Statement

Date: Nov. 2, 2011
Issues: Defense

"I am thrilled that Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson is one of three bases nationwide under
consideration by the U.S. Air Force to host an active duty MQ-1/9 Predator/Reaper Remotely Piloted Aircraft
(RPA) ground control squadron.

"The location of 280 additional personnel to Davis-Monthan would both strengthen and complement the
base's existing resources, while bolstering our national security. The Predator/Reaper vehicle offers unique
surveillance and surgical attack capabilities well-suited in the detection and deterrence of terrorist activities
worldwide. Resources like the Predator and Reaper can also offer security and defense right here along our
own southern border.

"I applaud the U.S. Air Force for its consideration of Davis-Monthan for the MQ-1/9 squadron, and
pledge the support and assistance of my office in any way possible. A strong military makes for a strong
Arizona."
